The Castlegar Nordic Ski Club has been providing well maintained cross country ski trails within the scenic Paulson Recreation Area for the last 50 years.  Our trails are located 32 km west of Castlegar on Highway 3, or 33 km north from Rossland on Highway 3B, just west of the junction of Highways 3 and 3B past Nancy Greene Lake.

The Paulson Cross Country Ski Trails are a diverse, interconnected network that extends around Mud Lake and into the surrounding varied terrain, through a mosaic of coniferous forests and openings with spectacular views, and with some of the best snow conditions anywhere!

With 45 km of tracked trails ranging from beginner to advanced levels, there are trails for everyone.  A 7.5 km circular route from Mud Lake to the Ben Shaw cabin is ideal for young families and beginners, while several longer, more challenging loop trails are available for intermediate and expert skiers.  An additional 8 km of untracked trails are in place for the more advanced backcountry skier.

Our Nordic Centre and three warming huts offer the opportunity for a variety of adventures from a short hour-long ski to a full day.  Pack a cheese toastie and hot chocolate (or any other favourite ‘trail lunch’) and head out!

While there are no established snowshoe trails, there is lots of snowshoeing terrain in the area.  When snowshoeing within our trail network area we request that visitors stay off the groomed trails, travel adjacent to track-set trails and that trail crossings avoid disturbing the tracks set for classic and skate skiing.  Please note that dogs are not allowed within the ski area.

We offer full season memberships as well as day-passes at very affordable, family-friendly rates.  See our website for fee rates, trail map and much more information.  Our season usually starts in mid-November and extends until the end of March.

Come out and experience an invigorating ski adventure on superb trails within the spectacular West Kootenay natural environment!
